The Ravens Were Doomed From the Start

Image
The Baltimore Ravens are on the outside not looking in at the AFC playoff picture with a 4-10 record this season. This is exactly the type of season that fans and the media alike should have seen coming for the Ravens. It all began before the season began when former big names left Baltimore for other teams. Star defensive tackle Haloti Ngata was acquired by the Detroit Lions to replace Ndomukong Suh, who signed with the Miami Dolphins. Wide receiver Torrey Smith joined former Ravens wide receiver Anquan Boldin in San Francisco tight end Owen Daniels and then offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak both left to join Peyton Manning in Denver. Joe Flacco had just lost two of his best receivers and a great offensive coordinator. When the Ravens traveled to Denver to take on the Broncos in their first game of the season, the defense looked good, picking off a couple Peyton Manning passes and not allowing him to throw a touchdown. During the game, however, outside linebacker and tremendo

The Rose Bowl is Perfect for Iowa

Image
Everyone likes to say that the Iowa Hawkeyes didn’t belong in the College Football Playoff because they didn’t play anyone with a winning record. But what they don’t realize is when Iowa’s schedule was made, no one expected them to be undefeated going into the Big Ten Championship game against Michigan State. The only reason that Iowa is not in the College Football Playoff is because of their loss to Michigan State. They will now play in the Grandaddy of them all, the Rose Bowl, against the Pac-12 Champion Stanford Cardinal. The Rose Bowl was the absolute perfect bowl for Iowa. If you can’t get into the College Football Playoff, the next bowl to get an invitation to is the Rose Bowl. Iowa belongs in the Rose Bowl. There is no doubt that they got exactly what they deserved. Hawkeyes coach Kirk Ferentz is also happy with the Rose Bowl bid. “We’re just absolutely thrilled to get the news today about being invited to the Rose Bowl and play the Pac 12 Champion, Stanford,” he told

Forest returned the interception 81 yards for a touchdown to give Kentucky a commanding 21-0 lead. The Cardinals got on the board on a three-play drive. New quarterback Lamar Jackson ran the ball in from 16-yards out to give Louisville their first points of the

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team will play their final road game of the season against the Army Black Nights in West Point, New York on Saturday. The game is scheduled to kick off at noon ET. Both teams have played lost seasons. Rutgers comes into the game with a record of 3-7, officially not bowl eligible for 2015. The Black Nights are at a record of 2-8, also officially not bowl eligible for 2015. Both teams are also riding long losing streaks. The Scarlet Knights have lost four games in a row while the Black Nights have lost their last three games. After this game, one Knights team will have ended a losing streak. Rutgers has lost their last four games by a combined score of 177-47. They could easily have a record of 5-5 and could be fighting for their playoff lives in the last two games. Had the defense stepped up in their Week 2 loss to Washington State and had quarterback Chris Laviano not spiked the ball on fourth down against Michigan State, the Scar

That was the score at the end of the first quarter. After another failed drive by the Knights, Michigan took over on their own 40 yard line. Rudock found Jabrill Peppers for a touchdown, which was officially called a rushing touchdown off of a lateral, to extend the lead to 21-3. The game is scheduled to kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET. The Knights are coming off of a loss to the University of Wisconsin Badgers by a score of 48-10. They have now lost two games in a row by a combined score of 97-17. The two losses to then #1 ranked Ohio State and to Wisconsin come after the Knights were looking like they were proving themselves worthy after pushing the Michigan State Spartans to the brink in their meeting and completing a 25-point comeback to win at Indiana. Michigan has also had a season with close wins and close losses. They were shocked by their in-state rivals, the Michigan State Spartans, when Michigan punter Blake O'Neill fumbled the snap on a punt on a fourth and 10 with only seconds left. the ball was picked by an returned for a  touchdown by the Sp

Penn Beats Down on Brown

Image
(photo via pennathletics.com) The Penn Quakers traveled to Providence, R.I to take on the Brown Bears on Halloween. The Quakers got the ball to start the game, but were unable to make any progress.  The Bears, on the other hand, took the ball down the field and scored on their first drive of the game to take a 7-0 lead. The Quakers were able to answer back with a 79 yard touchdown pass to WR Justin Watson to tie the game at seven. It was the longest pass of Alex Torgersen’s career, and the longest reception touchdown of Watson’s career. Penn’s defense stepped up when Sam Phillipi snagged his second interception of the season, and Penn was in business at their own 36 yard line. After getting to Brown’s 35 yard line, Torgersen threw a screen pass to Tre Solomon for a touchdown to put Penn on top 14-7. That was the scored at the end of the first quarter. After Penn’s defense forced a punt, Torgersen ran it in himself from twelve yards out to make the score 21-7. Bro

Raiders Dominate Jets 34-20

Image
(photo via silverandblackpride.com) The Jets were looking to get a win in Oakland against the Raiders. Both teams were pretty evenly matched on both sides of the ball, so for the first time since these two teams met in the Heidi Bowl in 1983, it was safe to say the Jets and Raiders could play a shootout game. The Jets fell behind early, and it got worse for them as quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was taken out of the game with a thumb injury. Geno Smith, who lost his job to Fitzpatrick after having his jaw broken before the season, was back under center. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr threw three touchdowns, and they were up 21-3 in the first half. He struggled, throwing an interception to Raiders veteran CB Charles Woodson with the Jets down 21-3 in the second quarter. The Jets were able to kick a field goal, and they trailed 21-6 at halftime. The Raiders scored another touchdown to start the second half and led 28-6 with 11:06 in the third quarter. On the Jets next

Saints Beat Giants in the "Duel at the Dome"

Image
(photo via NOLA.com) Following their win over the Dallas Cowboys last week, the Giants traveled to New Orleans, which is the hometown for both quarterback Eli Manning and wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Both had a great day. Manning threw for six touchdowns, three of which went to Beckham for a total of 53 yards. The Giants battled all throughout the game. Both Manning and Saints quarterback Drew Brees combined to throw for 13 touchdowns and no field goals through the first 59:55 of the game. The Giants have to come back in the fourth quarter, however, as the Saints led by a score of 42-28 after the third quarter. Manning threw two touchdowns to former Dwayne Harris, who returned the Cowboys kickoff 100 yards for the go ahead touchdown in last week’s win. The Giants defense stepped up when they needed to, as well, as Trumaine McBride returned a Saints fumble 63 yards for a touchdown that gave the Giants their first lead of the game. Drew Brees threw his sixth and
