The Penn Quakers traveled to Providence, R.I to take on the Brown Bears on Halloween. The Quakers got the ball to start the game, but were unable to make any progress.

The Bears, on the other hand, took the ball down the field and scored on their first drive of the game to take a 7-0 lead.

The Quakers were able to answer back with a 79 yard touchdown pass to WR Justin Watson to tie the game at seven. It was the longest pass of Alex Torgersen’s career, and the longest reception touchdown of Watson’s career.

Penn’s defense stepped up when Sam Phillipi snagged his second interception of the season, and Penn was in business at their own 36 yard line. After getting to Brown’s 35 yard line, Torgersen threw a screen pass to Tre Solomon for a touchdown to put Penn on top 14-7. That was the scored at the end of the first quarter.

After Penn’s defense forced a punt, Torgersen ran it in himself from twelve yards out to make the score 21-7. Brown coughed it up on their first play of the drive when the snap went over the quarterback’s head and Tyler Drake recovered for Penn at the Bears’ 17 yard line.

On the game’s next play, Eric Fiore took it in for the Quakers, and the score was now 28-7 with just five minutes left in the half.

Penn’s defense stepped up again with another interception, this time from Brandon Mills. The interception came off of a tipped pass. Penn took over at Brown’s 33 yard line with 1:51 left in the half.

The Quakers were stopped at the Brown 1 yard line with just: 04 left. They were left with a tough decision to kick the field goal or go for the one-yard score with little time left.

They decided to go for the touchdown, and it paid off. Solomon took it in off of a pitch, and as time expired in the first half, Penn took a 35-7 lead into the locker room.

With the last touchdown, Penn has scored 30+ points in four straight games for the first time since 2003-04. They finished 10-0 that season. The 35 first half points were also the most that Penn scored in a half since scoring 35 in the first 30 minutes in a game against Georgetown on Oct. 6, 2007.

In the second half, the Quakers got the ball to the Brown 11 yard line on their first drive. Running back Brian Schoenauer ran it into the end zone from there, and Penn led 41-7 (XP missed).

Brown made a game out of it by the end of the third quarter. They scored on their second drive of the half then, following a Penn punt, they scored on two deep passes to make it a 41-21 game.

The Bears fooled the Quakers with a surprise onside kick, and they recovered. It was looking as if they might drive down the field to make it a two-score game. Penn’s defense halted any chance of a comeback when Phillipi picked off his second pass of the afternoon.

Tre Solomon scored from six yards out, and Penn was back up by four scores with under ten minutes left to play in Providence. It was Solomon’s seventh touchdown in the last three games.

After Brown scored another touchdown, Penn closed the game with an interception, their fourth of the game, to seal the win by a score of 48-28. Their record now improves to 4-3 on the season. They will host the Princeton Tigers for their 2015 homecoming game next Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
