Rutgers Preview: at Army

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team will play their final road game of the season against the Army Black Nights in West Point, New York on Saturday. The game is scheduled to kick off at noon ET.

Both teams have played lost seasons. Rutgers comes into the game with a record of 3-7, officially not bowl eligible for 2015. The Black Nights are at a record of 2-8, also officially not bowl eligible for 2015.

Both teams are also riding long losing streaks. The Scarlet Knights have lost four games in a row while the Black Nights have lost their last three games. After this game, one Knights team will have ended a losing streak.

Rutgers has lost their last four games by a combined score of 177-47. They could easily have a record of 5-5 and could be fighting for their playoff lives in the last two games.

Had the defense stepped up in their Week 2 loss to Washington State and had quarterback Chris Laviano not spiked the ball on fourth down against Michigan State, the Scarlet Knights could have won both games.

Only two of the Black Knights’ eight losses have been by more than ten points. The other six have been by an average of 5.5 points per game. Like the Scarlet Knights, the Black Knights could easily be fighting for their playoff lives.

Unfortunately, they will be playing a meaningless game in West Point. Rutgers will be looking to prove that they are better than their record shows this season.
