The Rose Bowl is Perfect for Iowa
Everyone likes to say that the Iowa Hawkeyes didn’t belong
in the College Football Playoff because they didn’t play anyone with a winning
record. But what they don’t realize is when Iowa’s schedule was made, no one
expected them to be undefeated going into the Big Ten Championship game against
Michigan State. The only reason that Iowa is not in the College Football
Playoff is because of their loss to Michigan State.
They will now play in the Grandaddy of them all, the Rose
Bowl, against the Pac-12 Champion Stanford Cardinal. The Rose Bowl was the
absolute perfect bowl for Iowa. If you can’t get into the College Football
Playoff, the next bowl to get an invitation to is the Rose Bowl. Iowa belongs in
the Rose Bowl. There is no doubt that they got exactly what they deserved.
Hawkeyes coach Kirk Ferentz is also happy with the Rose Bowl
bid. “We’re just absolutely thrilled to get the news today about being invited
to the Rose Bowl and play the Pac 12 Champion, Stanford,” he told NBC 13
(WHO-TV, Des Moines, IA).
Had Iowa beaten Michigan State in Indianapolis on Saturday,
they would have been in the College Football Playoff. As the saying goes,
however, it’s not how you start. It’s how you finish. Iowa will play Stanford
in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day at 5 p.m. on ESPN. This will be the first
ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
