Middlesex County College Softball Mauls Montgomery

The Blue Colts softball team played a doubleheader against Montgomery County College on April 2. They had gotten off to a hot start by winning their first two games of the season. They were looking to continue their hot start.

In Game 1, the Lady Colts scored 28 points in a dominating win over Montgomery They went on to win the game by a final score of 28-6. The ladies got out to an 8-3 lead after one inning, and added four more runs in the second inning. The third inning was when the Colts broke the game wide open. They scored 13 runs in the inning to open up a 25-6 lead.

Brittany Clayton led the Lady Colts with five hits and five runs on five RBIs, including two home runs in the game. Lena Buccigrossi added a home run of her own, as well as three hits and five RBIs. Amanda Redman took the mound for the women and pitched well, allowing six runs on five hits, three walks and six strikeouts. The 28 points scored in the game for the Colts is the most for them since scoring 19 runs in a loss to Leigh Carbon last season.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Montgomery made it a close game at the end. The Lady Colts had a 6-1 lead at the end of the second inning. By the end of the fifth inning, Montgomery trailed only 8-4. They were able to tie the game in the sixth inning. In the bottom half of the sixth inning, the Colts scored two runs to take a 10-8 lead. They closed the game in the seventh to win by the final score of 10-8.

For Montgomery, Rachel DiBennedetto and Emma Hagel both recorded two RBIs and Linda Sobeck recorded three RBIs. DiBennedetto also recorded a double, and Anna Morgan recorded a triple.

The Colts scored all 10 runs on 10 hits. They also were allowed 13 walks and only struck out once. 

Amanda Redman started this game, as well, but did not earn the win. Redman gave up four runs on three hits in five innings pitched. The win went to Erin Stvan, who also gave up four runs on three hits, but also closed the game and the win out for the Lady Colts.
